Now available from Experimedia.net.* “The long overdue reissue of Selbstporträt III/Reise durch Arcadien closes a gap in the Roedelius oeuvre which his followers have long since had their eyes on. Those who found the self-portrait series irresistible had to endure a lengthy, impatient wait for the Journey Through Arcadia. As on the other releases in this series, the pieces on Reise durch Arcadien are musical sketches, fleeting ideas and aphorisms of a musician whose exuberant imagination assumes tonal form in almost every moment of his life. Created between 1973 and 1978 and recorded with decidedly modest technical equipment, this music reflects Roedelius’ most intimate, wholly undisguised vision of humane music. Almost casually, Roedelius offers us as listeners direct access to his artistic riches. Neither seeking to impose himself upon us, nor setting out to impress, he simply wishes to share with us something he could barely put into words. Utterly detached from time, stylistically unique, these tracks could easily be contemporary creations. Only the questionable recording quality (common to the majority of the self-portrait pieces) hints at a bygone age. This in no way diminishes the musical quality, however. On the contrary, it serves to emphasize the spontaneity and authenticity of the sketches. Roedelius was not interested in creating smoothly polished, perfect electronic music productions. His artistry lies in capturing musical ideas which appear like flashes of lightning and developing them through improvisation. With this in mind, he always pressed record on his tape machine when he sat down at the keyboard, channeling his thoughts, feelings and moods into music. In such moments of inspiration, there was simply no space to consider sound quality, dynamics, tonal balance or special sound effects. Sam Walton is a 22 year old producer from Manchester who came to Hyperdub after feeding us demo tracks, and started off in 2011 with the ?Walton EP?, the first of three EPs for the label. Since then he?s honed and developed his music into ?Beyond?, finding a really fresh and subtle intersection between music that doesn?t seem to naturally fit together, old eski grime, funky and Detroit house and techno but with smudged edges and a colourful industrial sound palette that gives a real richness to his productions. Walton’s music is never sombre or angry, but is about subtle combinations; there is an appealing, soulful sensuality to his beautifully crafted and joyous music. He says of the album ?I just wanted there to be a contrast between bright and dark, I didn’t want to stick to a specific genre either. Just a vibe.? Walton’s young enough to hear older elements of dance music with fresh ears – a recent Hacienda reunion was an ear opener, hearing the stripped back power of acid house for the first time influenced some of the music on ?Beyond?, in the way that a handful of contrasting elements can be placed together to create an exciting whole. Tracks like ?Need To Feel’ find this idea in action, this catholic but balanced take on production working in effect, with funky basslines, garage woodblocks and ambient atmospherics. On ?Can’t You See’, grimey kicks and claps are pitched against swooning, trancey strings, and ‘Every Night’s tough grimey synth horns work in tune with echoed guitar licks and pumping kicks. Or check the way the clanking metallic drums and 3D atmosphere of ?You And Me? contrast with warped diva giggles. By contrast, a tune like ?Memories? will wrongfoot you with a long, detailed intro before breaking into a track that cuts between old school grime and bitter sweet house stabs, as will ?Grit’s whipping snares, strange rotating bleeps and snaking bassline. ?Frisbee? again works with a grime pallette, a sparse, inventive soundscape of huge car door slams, weird squeaks and crackles, and a four note melody, while ?City Of God’s reverb laden, depressed beatlessness evokes a feel somewhere between grime and dubstep. Alternately recalling familiar dance music but created with freshness and enthusiasm, Walton’s vision is a welcome and highly enjoyable mutation.

Sven Tasnadi could not have chosen a more personal title for his debut album,
because he is envisioning himself as a “slow”, relaxed person, with all the virtues and pitfalls coming with that.
“Slow” are also the tracks on his Album as the title implies, but not for
a conceptual reason.
They emerged during phases where the kick drum had to be left outside the studio.
It usually is under heavy use when the DJ and Producer from Leipzig is touring throughout
Germany and Europe or releasing on labels like Poker Flat Recordings, Cargo Edition,
Smalville and Liebe*Detail.
In between Sven Tasnadi likes to get off once in a while, trying new ways,
looking for relaxation within peaceful and contemplative sounds.
An album was initially not what he had in mind.
When tracks with those tonality piled up, he wondered, how this previously
unknown side of him, could break through the surface.
“Slow” shows another Sven Tasnadi, an explorer. A producer, who is seeking the
limits – his own and those of different genres. Dubby moments, disturbing,
ambient, playful, warm.
Between the Dub-HipHop-Hybrid “Where Eva” and the reduced, floating “Druide”
lies a world of difference.
On “Slow” it all comes together. A consistent sound with soothing edges and with plenty of stories in between the lines.
In “Daniel The Painter” for example, you can hear his friend Daniel Stefanik painting
his room and “Pancake Killers” captivates with the recording of a microphone test.
With “Slow” Sven Tasnadi is succeeding with an surprisingly unconventional album,
miles away from the club scene – yet being true to himself.
