“Anterior, hyper-latinate dance music from Soda Plains, seriously killing it on Liminal Sounds after debuting with a coupla issues for DIS Magazine and Black Ocean in 2014.
Working in proximity of Kamixlo, Lexxi, Florentino or Croww, his Kickbacks are four tightly wound, hyaline productions cooly focussed on pointillist dembow drums, tight, booming bass and glistening webs of rhythmelody, all infected and filleted with a noisier, underlying chaos that always threatening to surge to the surface.
Chamdemic starts up numbed but, bright and icy like a good rail, whilst Revolving Door barely keeps its strobing edits and double-time switches in check, all the better for showing off on the ‘floor.
At its most acute, Brisance, exhibits the sharpest chops – almost sounds like some bandana-masked dealer bagging-up in fast fwd – whereas Shuttered works on a slower, wider swang sliced up with achingly futurist R&B stabs.
