The bulk of Commodo’s output has come on Mala’s ever-impressive Deep Medi Muzik, but the arts has also branched out to other UK stables, and this latest release on Black Acre seems both perfectly apt in terms of style and sound, but also masterfully timed for both the producer and the label. “Set It Straight” is more grime monster than bass mutant, a grizzly track that spits vocals from all angles above a rugged beat groove and distorted low tones; “Solid Gold Telephone” takes a similar stance, but goes deeper and strips the vocals by replacing them with even more stuttering percussion rhythms.
