After his last year’s album for Phat Phil Cooper’s NuNorthern Soul label, Lowhitey established himself as one of the purveyors of lovely, dreamy, proper Balearic sound. For his debut release on FASRAT (after appearing on “Compilation #3”) his rich, finely crafted sound takes this talented producer into darker and more adventurous direction. Drawing inspirations rather from experimental bass music than sun-kissed Balearia, Lowhitey delivers 6 tracks in 20 minutes, ranging from almost-ambient miniatures, through some bass-heavy drones over slow, hip-hop-like beats, all wrapped in dreamy synths and delicate melodies. The final track, “Cold & Hot”, utilises samples from a performance piece by contemporary artist Zuzanna Bartoszek, creating bittersweet song-not-song that goes straight to your heart.
