Riwaindo is Japanese English (Jenglish) slang for Rewind and Haiokas way of describing his art as tracing back the roots of Japanese music. I used Japanese oldest music called “Gagaku”. It is 1200 years old. Gagaku is the world’s oldest orchestral music. In the past I made my music with Japanese traditional instruments like Koto. I mixed it with Japanese field recordings and electronic sounds. With Riwaindo Im tracing back much further all the way to the origin of Japanese music. Indeed listening to Riwaindo makes us feel like traveling in contemporary Japan while at the same time feeling the countrys 2000 year history as the world’s oldest country. Japanese old style drums “Wadaiko” player Atsuhiro Cho supports Haioka on his musical journey and almost all unique drum sounds in this album are played by him. The album also features Argentinian experimental artist and fellow Red Bull Academy Tokyo alumnus Plasma Ruby known for his latest remix for Nils Frahm.
