Best Available Technology reveals another batch of blunted deconstructions with ‘Excavated Tapes 1992 – 1999 (Vol.2)’ via Astro: Dynamics. Following on from BNJMN’s more recent deconstructions and outings for Left Blank and Styles Upon Styles, it sounds out ten cryptically crushed and frayed off-beats and ambient enigmas operating in their very own time-and-place quite unlike most else out there. They range from unstable equations such as the ghostly, fragmented ‘Sncs9’ thru to recursive lower case shoegaze styles in its longest piece, the five minute ‘Side B Strng 01’, and even a sort of sweetly cranky digi-dub reminding of Jackson bailey’s Tapes in the closing strokes, all showcasing the myriad, nimble approaches and results of BAT’s nascent experimentation in ’90s Portland, Oregon.
