Mike Shannon has been working with DeWalta since 2011 and they have put out a series of records together, including one for the Canadian producer’s Cynosure. Residual, their debut album, sees them opt for a different approach. Granted, there are still some fine examples of reduced, minimal house on offer – just check the sax-infused “GMC” – but Residual excels at re-casting the pair in the same adventurous light as Losoul or Isolee. “Jugular Dub” is a slower, swampy workout, “Tauben Summer” rolls to the sound of infectious disco samples and best of all, “Slicks” is a melodic, evocative piece of techno mood music.
