In their brief life so far, Parisian label Latency have attained a sense of quality over the course of their three releases that has probably resulted in a few envious glances. Records from Innerspace Halflife, Joey Anderson and Even Tuell have set the bar high, and have been complemented by equal attention to detail from an aesthetic viewpoint. A slight shift in focus for Latency is shown here with a full length album from Mura Oka, which transpires to be a long gestating project of Latency co-founder Sidney Gerard and friend Louis Vial. There is however no drop in quality, with Auftakt a wonderfully paced album of deep electronics that could quite easily fit on Workshop and one that reveals new highlights with every listen.

Following on from the first installment of remixes that saw the likes of Ellen Allien and Mathias Kaden tackling material off her latest album, Dutch techno mainstay Shinedo this time opts for deeper remixes from a host of different characters, and the results are astounding. Jerome Sydenham keeps things techy and energetic, but not at the cost of soothing, immersive synth tones on his version of “Wo Wei”, and Lawrence takes a decidedly minimal route when dealing with “Panomanic”. However it’s Tom Trago that steals the show with a killer reworking of “Essence” that employs a deadly line in offbeat rhythms to get hairs standing on the backs of necks in a most surprising way, and that’s before you consider the powerful strokes of synth he drapes over the track.

For his follow up to certified underground hits “Tonite” and “Enter the Fog”, Fit Siegel retains a firm embrace of both melody and rhythm. “Cocomo” is Siegel’s most delicate, and beautiful track to date. While, “Seedbed” snaps the listener back to the dancefloor with a syncopated acid earworm.
