Absent on the production front since his latest LP dropped on Delsin in April, Mike Dehnert returns to home base Fachwerk for the Switch Back To City EP. As ever, there’s a leftfield vibe to much of the four productions from Dehnert, and the producer sounds like he had particular fun with lead track “Detroit Switch Back To City”, which twists those trademark synths in all new ways. A more explicit dub techno approach takes hold on “Orage de Chaleur” though Dehnert does drop plenty of alien sounding textures into the mix, whilst both “Sans Cesse” and “Lax” offer a detour into wonderfully deranged techno territory.

Soul Notes is a label which surfaced in 2011 and so far this year it’s put out music from Efenkei and joint release between label founder Mario Castillo, aka Kastil, and Adryiano. Now Castillo goes out on his own delivering a solid three-track release featuring an Eomac remix of the title-track. “Binary Star” is a snare-heavy, breakbeat-styled techno production that Ian McDonnell totally dubs out in a typically haunting remix, while “Forrest Curtains” is a sinister cut of Detroit styled techno you could expect to hear played late in the night at Tresor.
