With a career stretching back to the mid-’90s, Kennedy has put his name to around 100 releases. In the early days, the bulk of the Englishman’s work dropped via his own Asymmetric imprint. In 2007, though, he linked up with Belgium label head Kr!z, subsequently releasing a string of well-received 12-inches via the latter’s (at the time) fledging Token label. Kennedy has remained one of Token’s core artists, helping it become one of the most respected European techno outposts while gaining himself new followers with tough but polished productions. Vaudeville will be Kennedy’s first full-length in almost four years, and his first for Token. The album’s title takes its name from a 20th century form of theatre, characterised by combining speciality acts like burlesque comedy, song and dance.

As the spearhead of the underground Lisbon electronic music scene, DJ Marfox has made a break for the wider world of labels and releases with this appearance on Lit City Trax, bringing his African-tinged hype sound to an audience beyond his home town. “Terra Batida” matches strikingly simple synth lines with a snagging groove that stands out due to its off kilter nature. “Noise” switches things up with an experimental line in found sounds and polyrhythmic contortions that dart the Marfox sound out into leftfield. At every turn on this EP the groove can split in any number of different ways, but it’s not all peak time body shaking business, as “Heartbeat” demonstrates with its tender melodies and easy pace. Whether fast or slow though, this is all single-minded music arranged in unfamiliar ways.

Having seen his series of MMT Tapes 12″s collected by Rush Hour back in 2012 for a superb double LP release, Jorge Velez marks his return to the Amsterdam emporium in fine style here with this Ausland single. If recent reports are to be believed, this two-track release is the first of several records from Velez planned over the course of the year with Creme Organization and the Skudge Presents series amongst his planned destinations. Both the title track and “Lost Highway” will leave you craving more productions from the New Jersey-based musician, expanding on the delicate, supple, hardware driven sound of his MMT Tapes material and delightfully strange in their execution.
