East Ends Dubs is most notably known for his imprint of the same name, releasing a series of limited colour vinyl EP’s and digital releases ‘East End Dubs 001-006’ seeing chart support and praise from the likes of George Morel and Rhadow. Here he joins Act Natural’s roster alongside the likes of Alex Arnout, Adam Shelton, Huxley and Matt Tolfrey. Title track ‘She Loves It’ opens the release here, a deep, sub-bass driven cut with sensual, sleazy vocal chops worked in, uttering ‘I Love It’ and ‘Fantasy’. Shuffling drums meander around the groovy bass licks and ever-evolving atmospherics smoothly as East End Dubs manipulates the melodic elements to create a cavernous, intense depth. Next up is ‘Charlie Foxtrot’, embracing a similar dark aesthetic with punchy synth stabs, elongated delays and a bubbling background foundation. The London based producer applies subtle automation to the hooky feel of the track to build tension and keep things motivated and stirring, resulting in a 3am heads down groove. ‘Make Some’ follows, taking on a stripped-back form the percussive elements lead the way here. Weighty drums lie at the forefront while a warm deep house pad softly flourishes in the hidden depths. A gritty electronic bass is introduced to the latter stages rounding off the cut as an effortlessly sleek deep-house slow bloomer. To close the release East End Dubs turns in ‘Stranger’, dropping the tempo slightly to tastefully wind down the EP Dubs applies an amalgamation of percussion, drawn out dub-delays on the synthesized parts and filter modulation throughout the structure to mold together a moody drum driven workout.

Forget Me Not is a trio from Bristol with a rich musical history and close association to the city from which they hail. As solo artists they have put out countless d&b 12_s and now combine their forces into an even more powerful production outfit. And that”’s all we are telling you ahead of the release of their four track EP, Stronger, on Losing Suki. Opening with ”’Should Be Stronger”’ Forget Me Not suggest they are indebted to no on scene in particular, with Pantha du Prince styles bells forming a backdrop, slinky, glistening percussive slices chopping up a bump and grind beat and watery vocals bleeding their way into every gap in the arrangement. Fresh sounding stuff indeed, but if you prefer it sans vocals fear not, for an instrumental is also included. ”’Big Tings”’ is as tightly coiled and kinetic as a Mosca production. Slapping mechanical hits are offset with more syrupy synth work in the background and a catchy female vocal echoes in the spaces in between. The results are as rude and vibey as any prime garage cut without sounding like a tired pastiche. Finally, ”’How Long”’ somewhat recalls the trio”’s d&b past with its hollowed out, steppy percussive rhythms, neon pads and carefully balanced sense of crescendo throughout. When it finally drops proper in the final third with a healthy dose of sub bass, ribs get rattled and a pervading sense of euphoria wholly washes over you. A diverse EP that moulds and mutates a broad array of UK specific influences, Forget Me Not prove themselves to be an aptly titled trio with this Losing Suki debut.

Following his well-received Animals EP with Paola Poletto on Desolat in the summer 2012, Loco Dice’s imprint is pleased to welcome back Francisco for a solo EP that sees him continue his fine production form. Kicking off with “The Magician” Francisco takes the listener all slightly different journey with a more experimental sound. The track’s vocal sample conjures up an almost warped reality and offsets the deep emotive music that accompanies it. “Superwave Theory” is a more aggressive track, tinged with futuristic sounds that are underpinned with a chugging rhythm and a ghostly vocal loop, this has been a favourite for Loco Dice for a while. The shimmering “Proyecto Gaia” is a finely crafted track that works in a playful groove to the release. Its hypnotic nature makes for easy but explorative listening. “El Regreso de los Abuelos” is a more delicate and intricate affair and serves as a beautiful complement to the tracks that are wrapped around it. Lush ethereal sounds provide a sonic extradition for the listener. The Chilean producer picks the tempo back up with “Ascension 101” that features a warm all-encompassing bass that is punctuated by spatterings of harmonious progressions. A polished production that will be used to build the atmosphere in many a club. Finally “Amigos del Planeta 12” is a jumpy punchy track with a swinging tempo that oozes an after-hours ethos. Francisco is tipped for big things, and through this demonstration of his own rich musical palette and a well-crafted studio excellence, one can see why.

For ‘Vowel Play’, we scored an amazing Prince Club (Snatch! Records) Remix. Trippy acid house on a 114 bpm. Autohypnotising slo mo mayhem. BS1 (Boys Noize Records) let the machines speak, turning the vowels into beats. Pleasure and pain under the influence of pure pink noise. A vowel belter.

After the success of the Slam + Gary Beck (Alliances 1) release, Slam welcome friends and peers Pan-Pot to the next phase of their ‘Alliances’ series. Slam & Pan-Pot have shared the stage at many an occasion whether it be at Slam’s Pressure or Return To Mono nights at The Arches & Sub Club respectively, or at the Mobilee Rooftop or Poolside parties, Off-Sonar. Pan-Pot have also remixed Slam’s ‘Room 2’ & ‘Lifetimes’ tracks while Slam have reworked Pan-Pot’s ‘Face To Face’ & ‘Confronted’ tracks. Their sounds are well matched, as are their personalities. ‘Media’ brings the drive, swing and melody that both pairs of producers do so well. Twisting and turning through delayed FX and doubling drums, ‘Media’ swells until it hits an epic bass sequence at the tracks half-way mark before dropping back to a stripped groove. When the two acts combine they are most certainly a formidable force. ‘Media’ is the perfect example of this.
