An Atlanta trio, DJs Jamal Ahmad & Mark Angel and keyboardist/musician Darren “DJ” Wagner are inspired by the story of Dangerfield Newby, one of five African-Americans in the John Brown party. Their album Hariet boasted “What Am I Here For?” amongst its tunes and here it gets the remix treatment. “KZR’s Defected Stripped Down Mix” is a deep and moving slice of pared back soulful house and the “Original NDATL Vocal” cut is a jazzy piano house jam with extra swing. Another bonus tune, “Swinging With The New Jacks” becomes a loungey instrumental stomp in the Kai Alce Distinctive remix.
