The latest release on Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon’s Classic Music imprint is a cross generational collaboration, with veteran house producer Eric Kupper joining forces with up-and-coming soulful house sort Kenny Summit. Musically, “Over Here” has echoes of Twilo-era Strictly Rhythm releases, or the masculine pump of classic Roach Motel; think relentless stabs, rolling grooves, simple vocal loops and a hint of sweaty, late night darkness. It’s decidedly simple in construction, but devilishly effective. The accompanying deeper mix plays a round a little with the percussive hits and adds a few different vocal samples, but for the most part sticks to a similar script.
